Highway Code takes painted road markings out of context and transforms them into a strange and indecipherable language.
Kate Proudman has been working on her series Public Servants for several years. These oil paintings show the untold, unnoticed work that goes into repairing and maintaining the urban environment. They explore the paradox of the invisible high-visibility clothes, and show road workers employing strange, often archaic equipment to dismantle bus shelters, to burn off and repaint road markings, to construct kerbs or to sandbag against floods.
